How QR codes and ITR cash registers can change the practice landscape

In a world that is constantly evolving and in which technology plays a central role, QR codes have become an integral part of our everyday lives. These digital patterns are far more than just graphic symbols; they are a key to optimizing processes and increasing efficiency. They are not only important for the retail sector, but also for users of the ITR Lite entry-level POS solution. Read our blog post today to find out how practices and service providers can benefit from QR code support in the ITR checkout.

Development of QR codes

The QR code, an abbreviation for "Quick Response", was developed in 1994 by the Japanese company "Denso" and was initially used for logistics in the automotive sector. With its availability as an open standard, companies began to increasingly use QR codes for marketing purposes in the 2000s. With the advent of smartphones and apps for code scanning, QR codes became even more popular. The COVID-19 pandemic led to a renewed increase in the use of QR codes in various areas such as contact data collection, contactless ordering and payment.

Today, it is hard to imagine our society without QR codes. They have constantly evolved and are used in different ways. One of these variants is the EPC QR code.

The EPC QR code

The European Payments Council (EPC) is strongly committed to improving the efficiency of euro bank transfers within the Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA). One measure was the introduction of the EPC QR code, also known as the giro code. This QR code technology was developed to drastically reduce errors due to manual data entry, as it enables SEPA credit transfers to be executed with a simple scan. The payment data such as payee, amount, IBAN, BIC and purpose are filled in automatically.

Our ITR cash register also benefits from this technology and can therefore considerably simplify payment processing in your practice.

QR code support in the ITR cash register

In practices, it can be a challenge to keep track of the services to be provided. The support of QR codes in the ITR cash register can be extremely useful in this context, as it enables uncomplicated tracking of the services provided and efficient billing. Typically, specialized software is used for billing services, which often does not offer integrated payment processing capabilities.

The use of QR codes for payment processing is a function that is integrated into the ITR cash register. Employees can quickly and easily scan the QR code on the customer's invoice. Once the QR code has been captured, the payment information it contains is automatically linked to a predefined item in the checkout and the corresponding price is automatically applied. This feature offers flexibility and convenience throughout the transaction process. Self-checkout solutions are also possible, allowing customers to scan and pay their bills themselves.

Security and fiscalization

Security is a top priority when integrating QR codes into POS systems, especially with regard to fiscalization. The combination of the billing system and the ITR POS solution ensures that compliance with relevant fiscalization regulations is supported, e.g. the use of a TSE in accordance with KassenSichV. This ensures that your business not only complies with legal requirements, but also effectively protects the confidential data of your customers or patients. The combination of tamper protection, data protection and automated data recording simplifies and speeds up auditing processes, which benefits both the tax authorities and the operators.
