From Scanned Items to Weighing Technology to Bistro Operations: How Blumen Decker Modernized Its POS Landscape

Deeply rooted since 1936, Blumen Decker GmbH has stood for regionality, quality, and a passion for plants in Achern and the surrounding area for decades. However, its success is not based solely on its diverse product range. Above all, the combination of expertise, personal advice, and close customer relationships makes the garden center a trusted destination for many people in the region.

To meet this standard in day-to-day sales operations, Blumen Decker continuously works on optimizing its internal processes. Most recently, the focus shifted to the checkout. The goal was to find a modern solution that simplifies sales processes for both customers and employees.

Everything a Green Heart Desires

In 1936, Albert Decker laid the foundation for today’s garden center with the establishment of a nursery in Sasbachwalden. The company’s passion for plants is reflected in its wide-ranging assortment: plants for gardens, balconies, and terraces, a tree nursery, and gardening supplies form the core of the business.

Over time, the family business has grown not only in size but also in scope. A bio market offers customers a wide selection of organic vegetables, cheese, wine, and other products. In addition, Decker opened an organic vegetable nursery in Großweier, producing its own Demeter-certified organic vegetables.

With such a broad product range and diverse sales processes, the demands on the underlying technical infrastructure increased, especially at the point of sale.

POS Modernization Planned

Last year, the decision was made to modernize the POS system. Internally, several requirements were defined for the new software solution. Since Decker operates multiple checkout stations across the garden center, organic vegetable nursery, bio market, and bistro, the goal was to implement a standardized, ideally interconnected solution for all areas.

At the same time, the systems needed to accommodate specific functionalities such as integrated scales in the organic vegetable nursery.

Flexibility and adaptability were top priorities. The company sought a standardized POS solution that could be customized, both in terms of additional features and user interface design. Equally important was ease of use: the solution needed to offer intuitive onboarding and operation, ensuring that not only customers benefit from faster checkouts, but employees as well.

Expectations Met

The search for suitable software solutions ultimately led Decker to it relations. The ITR POS solution met all defined requirements. After a short familiarization phase, implementation began, and ITR POS was rolled out across all checkout stations.

The systems were configured to match the specific workflows of each area within the garden center. In addition to scanning items via EAN, price labeling can also be easily recorded. In the bio market and organic vegetable nursery, the POS systems are equipped with modern weighing technology. This ensures precise product registration for customers while enabling reliable inventory management. A certified interface between the POS system and scales is responsible for this functionality.

Another key advantage was the seamless integration into the existing merchandise management system. Decker relies on Orgasoft.NET, a solution by our YUVENDA sister company Signum. This enabled a smooth, end-to-end workflow without media disruptions.

Added Value Created

Across the entire sales process, this results in tangible benefits for the family business. The intuitive user interface supports employees in efficient sales handling and contributes to an even better customer experience.

Processes are now automated and standardized , even across different business areas. For example, data for accounting and merchandise management is centrally collected and made available, enabling efficient control of products and the overall assortment.

The combination of local POS installation and a modern cloud-based back-office solution ensures reliable real-time synchronization, providing full transparency at all times.

“At first, we thought that finding a suitable POS solution would be challenging given our diverse requirements. But it relations quickly proved us wrong. Our needs were individually implemented for each checkout. Today, we have a modern POS landscape that allows us to serve our customers seamlessly.”
Markus/Ingeborg Decker, Managing Directors of Blumen Decker GmbH

Well Positioned for the Future

Blumen Decker’s product range and processes are highly diverse. Therefore, the new POS solution needed to cover everything from standard scanned items to weighed goods and integration with merchandise management.

ITR POS impressed not only with its functionality, but also with its seamless integration into existing processes. Today, the family business operates with a modern POS system that significantly simplifies day-to-day sales. At the same time, it has established a solid foundation for further developing its services and processes in a targeted manner.
